From restaurants to local grocery stores and elementary school cafeterias, our eggs can be found in many locations around Western Montana. Eating locally grown and raised products is important to the economy and the health of the community which is why we love when local schools contact us about using our eggs in their cafeterias.

Farm to School in the Cafeteria

Schools throughout the country participate in a program called Farm to School. This initiative was created to help children and families have increased access to local food and nutritional education. This program is important because it improves children’s health, empowers communities and supports family farms. The Farm to School program works to connect local food providers with educational institutes and to help local schools change their food purchasing practices. Montana’s branch of the National Farm to School Network is overcoming major barriers to having local foods in schools such as short growing seasons and long distances between towns to make sure all Montana kids have access to local foods.

Working together with the Montana Beef to School Coalition, they have made it possible for many school-age children to eat Montana raised beef. At Farmer Boy Eggs, we believe it is very important to interact with our local schools and children. Many schools in western Montana serve our eggs to their students. We also love teaching the local students about farming and raising animals such as chickens by welcoming classes to our farm for field trips. From local eggs to fresh, local produce, the Farm to School program makes a large impact on the health of local children and the community as a whole.

Local Food in the Lunchbox

Maybe your kids refuse to eat the hot lunch from the cafeteria and rely on you packing them lunch before they hop on the bus. Not to worry, there are some great ways to pack local ingredients including Farmer Boy Eggs in their lunch boxes. Here are a few healthy, easy recipes with Montana ingredient recommendations:
